 Welcome To Ms. Carter's Class

Parent/Teacher Conference Time!

I am really enjoying getting to know and work with your child!  I believe it is important that parents understand all the tests their children take, as well as, the expectations for the year.  I would like to meet with everyone in order to go over your child's beginning of the year assessment scores. This also provides you with an opportunity to discuss any questions or concerns you may have.

I am providing a list of times that I will be available.  Please sign up for a day/time that works for you.

 Accelerated Reader

Accelerated Reader Program

Dear Parents,

Your child has been checking out library books from the library. This week your child will be given a bookmark with specific reading range to be working on right now.  The children love to bring home books that they can read. We hope that you will be exited to hear them read. These books are part of the Accelerated Reader Program at Indian Knoll.

When your child brings home a book, have him/her read it to different people. Discuss the book, and find the title and author.  Please remember to praise each effort.  Once your child has finished the book (at least 3 times-one time silently by him/herself; second time orally/out loud to someone; third time either and ask questions about story), please return it to school as soon as possible with your signature and the date on the Reading Log sheet to let me know he/she is ready to take an AR quiz. (If you want to write the quiz number instead of title that is much easier for the students to type in than the title of the book. The quiz number can be found on the inside cover on the AR label if it’s a library book.)  If it’s a book from home, please look up the book and find the quiz number.  Almost every book has an AR test. You can visit the AR Book Finder link, http://www.arbookfind.com/ to make sure that your book from home has an AR test too.

An AR label with your child’s AR login has been put in your child’s Agenda on the inside cover.  When taking a test he/she will need to bring their Agenda to login the Username and Password.  AR tests need to be taken independently, and can only be taken at school. The program does offer the option to read the test to your child. Please encourage your child to pay attention and do their best. Once a test has been taken, the program will not allow your child to retake the test.

Each student will keep track of their tests, scores, and points on an Accelerated Reader Chart. I will send home reports at grading report times for you to look at, sign, and return.

Thank you for your support with this program! J
