 African Cultures Webquest

The United Nations, located in New York City, continues to work with various ethnic groups worldwide to aid in their development and to provide assistance when necessary.  In order to do accomplish that mission the United Nations must have detailed information concerning these ethnic groups.  You have been contracted by the U.N. to update their records on various ethnic groups in Africa and/or Asia. 
For those assigned to the Middle East mission the following groups will be researched: Arab, Kurd, Turk, Persian.
 
For those assigned to the African mission the following groups will be researched: Ashanti, San, Swahili, Bantu.
 
Use the following Essential Question to guide you through your research:
a.What are the religions, languages, and locations of various ethnic groups in Africa and Asia?
b.How are these ethnic groups similar?
c.How are these ethnic groups different?

 Presentation

Once you have completed all of the steps in the web search, you will create a PowerPoint to collect your research and present your findings.  You will be requied to have a cover page (your name, Mrs. Papendick, period, 7A, and a title) as well as a Bibliography.  Download and read the rubric to ensure you have all of the required components.  Be prepared to share your reserach findings to the class.

 Procedures

As you are conducting your research, answer the following questions: (Ex: Each question may be used as a slide in your presentation.).
1.Which religion is practiced by most of the members of this ethnic group?
  1a.List any other religions that may be practiced by other members of the group.
  1b.If the main religion is not Judaism, Christianity, Islam, Hindu, or Buddhist briefly describe the religion (who, what, when, where, why, and how).
2.In which country(s) are most members of the ethnic group located?
  2a.If the group is spread across international borders; does that cause problems for the group (explain in detail)
  2b.If the group is spread across international borders; is the group attempting to create their own country?
3.What are the main languages for this group?
4.What are the current issues causing problems for this group? (Briefly describe using who, what, when, where, why and how)
Do not forget to compare an ethnic group and a religious group.
(The following questions are derived from the Georgia Performance Standards).

 Daily Progress

Below is a suggestion of the daily progress you should have inorder to finish the project on time:
 
Day One: Gather information on two ethnic groups including notes, pictures, sounds, and so on.
 
Day Two: Gather information on two additional ethnic groups including notes, pictures, sounds, and so on.
 
Day Three: Begin designing your presentation gathering all required information, pictures, sounds, and other files
 
Day Four: Continue putting together your presentation.
 
Day Five: Finish the presentation, double check to make sure all information is accurate with correct spelling, grammar, and punctuation.  Be prepared to present your findings to the class.
